| Dr. Elena Jackson Albarrán, history professor at Miami of Ohio, spoke to OU students interested in Latin America about the development of the children's magazine "Pulgarcito" after the Mexican Revolution. During a time of rebuilding and a focus on education, José Vasconcelos (La raza cósmica), the minister of education, promoted education in rural Mexico and the creation of a national identity. This magazine, dedicated to and edited by children, reflects various components of the new national identity. Icons such as the volcanos of Mexico City, Itza and Popo, as well as imitations of the styles of Orozco, Siqueiros and Rivera, the great murlaists, were a given and children won various awards according to the nationalist portrayal of Mexicanism. | ![]() |
