| ASARO of Mexico: Impressions of Radical Printmakers Exhibition: Sept 8, 2009- Oct 9, 2009. In Conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month Multicultural Center Art Gallery, 215 Baker Center, Ohio University, Athens, OH. Closing Reception: Fri. Oct 9, 2009, 6-9pm with Gallery Talk at 7pm. ASARO is the Assembly of Revolutionary Artists of Oaxaca, a collective of young Mexican artists responding to Oaxaca’s political turmoil. ASARO’s remarkable woodblock prints are part of Mexico’s long tradition of popular revolutionary art. The artists sell woodblock prints for 100 pesos, roughly $10, in Oaxaca’s zocalo, or the public square. ASARO’s real passion, however, is the work they give away. |
