| Latin American Studies visits Washington D.C. | |||

The Latin American Studies program's annual spring networking trip to Washington, D.C. was a great success! Students visited the Institute of International Education, the Inter-American Development Bank, National Council of La Raza, Brazil Industries Coalition, and Amnesty International. Suggestions for organizations to visit on next year’s trip are welcome. It's never too early to start planning! Send any questions or suggestions about the D.C. Trip to Allison Chasko. |

The 16th Annual Spring Colloquium was fascinating and well-attended. The two-day event entitled, "Global Perspectives on Contemporary Inter-Cultural Identities," featured Ashley Love from the Center for Latin American Studies at OSU, Dr. Ariel Aguilar from the University of Havana, Dr. Rudy Guevarra from Arizona State University, and Dr. Tehama Lopez from Ohio University. The speakers lectured on the topics of "Remarkable Inheritance" and "Renegotiated Forces: Illustrations of Historical Flux."

| 11th Annual Latin Americanist Conference Bowling Green State University February 17-18, 2012 Monica Thuney and Erica Harding recently participated and presented at OLAC in Bowling Green University on February 17, 2012. Erica's presentation was titled, "On our Land: Being Garifuna in Honduras." Monica's presentation was titled, "La Vida es Dura" - Understanding Human Rights and Chronic Kidney Disease inside a Nicaraguan Sugarcane Community. |
