The Student Conference on Latin America, organized by the Institute of Latin American Studies Student Association (ILASSA) at The University of Texas at Austin, is an interdisciplinary forum for students involved in Latin American research topics. The conference provides students with the opportunity to present research activities, develop presentational skills, exchange ideas and information, and meet other scholars from around the world. The conference, now in its 32nd year, is the oldest and largest student-conference in the field of Latin American Studies.

Abstract Requirements: ILASSA invites students to submit for acceptance a single-page abstract of a paper (300 words max) within the field of Latin American Studies. The abstract will enable us to select papers for presentation and to organize panels for the conference. Abstracts should be submitted online in order to facilitate the submission process for everyone - especially for participants outside the United States. Hard copies of abstracts will not be accepted. Graduate students at Ohio University have been invited to participate in a state-wide forum with state leaders on October 13th.  

The Ohio Board of Regents (BOR) and the Council of Graduate Students (CGS), The Ohio State University is organizing a forum for the state government to engage in discussion with graduate students in Ohio.

Mission: To generate ideas, improve communication, and increase awareness to promote job creation in the State of Ohio.

Program Summary: The program will begin with a welcoming session, where participants will learn about the distinguished guests, their background, and their interests. Following this, distinguished guests will be asked to make a few remarks about the forum and the intended output. In order to inform the audience of present initiatives, resources available, and current issues, state leadership will give a brief presentation. Participants will then break out into groups to brainstorm on selected discussion topics, in a World Café format. Groups will have ten minutes to discuss each question. At the end of the ten minutes, five minutes will be allotted for groups to share their results with the audience. This process will repeat for four questions. The participants will then reconvene and there will be twenty-five minutes for open discussion, led by state leadership. The program will close by a brief review of the day’s activities, and discussion of further steps.

The Latin American and Iberian Food Studies Review

The Latin American and Iberian Food Studies Review invites submissions of multidisciplinary research articles with a focus on food symbolic, production, and consumption systems in Latin America, Spain and Portugal. This is a peer-review, trilingual journal, published annually by the Center for Latin American and Iberian Studies, a unit of the Center Initiatives at Kennesaw State University.

International Graduate Student Research Conference on Latin America and the Caribbean

Creative and Critical Perspectives

In November 2008, the Centre for Research on Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLAC) held its first International Graduate Student Research Conference. This conference attracted over 70 presenters from Canada, the US, Europe and Latin America who presented in 20 thematic panels over a two-day period. Expert faculty discussants helped ensure rich debate and provided timely feedback, and selected papers were published in the CERLAC Working Paper series.

With the intention of continuing the conversations begun in 2008, we are inviting submissions for a second conference to be held on

The Hispanic and Lusophone worlds have long been characterized by cultural diversity and intercultural contact, as well as attempts to define a unified Hispanic, Lusophone, or national culture. Cultural identities can be shaped by art, music, literature, film, television, and numerous other media, which can reach large segments of the population, remain confined to a small subset, or not be discovered until decades or centuries later. The goals and effects of cultural production are varied as well, including education, resistance, entertainment, and identity formation. Please join in this conversation and celebration of Hispanic and Lusophone cultures from a variety of time periods.
