In addition to the competitive award programs, there are two sources of discretionary funds. Please keep in mind these funds are limited, and applicants should discuss their projects with their chair/director to confirm they are priority projects and to identify match sources

OURC Chair's Discretionary Fund
Small awards for faculty and staff of up to $500 for research, scholarship, and creative activity are available upon application and approval by the current OURC Chair.

CRSCA Discretionary Fund
Small awards of up to $500 for undergraduate, graduate and medical student research, scholarship, and creative activity are available upon applicati on and approval by the current CRSCA Chair.

Ohio University's 4th Annual International Women's Day Festival will be held on March 11, 2012. This year’s festival will honor the theme of “Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures,” and celebrate the past, present, and future accomplishments of women worldwide. The Festival will provide an opportunity for the campus community to highlight women’s and girl’s achievements, to reflect on women’s status today, and to project into women’s future as local, national, and global subjects and citizens.  We encourage all members of our community – domestic and international, students, faculty, staff, and community and family members -- to participate in this event.

The Graduate Student Senate, in partnership with Alden Library, hosts a yearly series of presentations about the research process. Ohio University graduate students are invited to
submit presentation proposals about their own research methods, or form a panel discussion around current graduate research and scholarly issues. Accepted proposals will allow graduate students to share their research experience with the university community, thus providing an opportunity to gain valuable presentation experience in an on-campus public forum.

The Zacatecas Institute for Teaching and Research in Ethnology, Macehualli Educational Research, la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas, and California State University Los Angeles are partnering to offer the opportunity to study Classical and Modern Nahuatl at the beginning and intermediate-advanced levels in a summer intensive course.

The International Research Training program evolves from 10 years of experience providing multidisciplinary training in research methodology to students from the USA, Europe and Latin America. The course takes place in the context of efforts by the Tropical Disease Institute to combat Chagas disease in Ecuador. The course will provide participants with a solid background and skills to conduct interdisciplinary research in an international setting, while improving their Spanish language skills. This will be achieved through onsite lectures on applied research methodology The Tropical Disease Research Program field activities will provide practical training on the many aspects related to multidisciplinary field research implementation within the Chagas disease research project.

Program Dates: June 19 – July 31, 2012
(programs of 2 – 6 weeks available within this timeframe)

The Student Journal for International Affairs needs writers. World Report News is seeking bi-weekly permanent writers. Each article should be around 1500 words. These writers will be able to build a repertoire of works and attract a steady audience. They are also seeking monthly contributors who are expected to write one essay 3000+ words each month.

LIVFund is now accepting applications for the LIVFund Scholarship from groups traveling abroad to Latin America to study, intern or volunteer.

Any individual or group who has plans to study, intern or volunteer abroad in Latin America for at least one [1] week is eligible to apply for funding. LIVFund Scholarships are awarded twice per month in the amount of US$500. This is the award offer for both individuals and groups at this time.
